A characterful portrait of an elderly bearded man smoking a pipe. Several versions of this work exist, many attributed to Raffaele Frigerio (1875-1948), Salvatore Maresca, and Ferruccio Vitale (1875-1933). Indistinctly signed lower right. Well presented in a gilt frame. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age. Discolouration and craquelure to the paint surface. Faint impressions from the stretchers. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration. Minor scuffing and marks to the frame.
