Circle of Thomas Barker of Bath (1769-1847) - Early 19th Century Oil Farm Boy
Description
A charmingly rustic 19th-century oil portrait of a young farm boy. The artist captures the boy's weary expression and dirty face as he rests. A basket containing a chicken is slung over his shoulder, whilst a water jug sits at his feet. Well presented in an ornate gilt frame. Bears signature to the lower left. On panel.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age, including some discolouration to the varnish. There is craquelure to the surface. There are some scuffs and abrasions to the upper margin. Wear to the edges. The frame shows signs of wear consistent with age, including some stable cracking. The frame has undergone previous restoration work.
