Description
A fine eighteenth-century portrait of an aristocratic lady wearing a pale blue dress and lace shawl. This portrait was acquired as part of a pair; the other depicts her husband and is also listed (sw260). She wears a string of pearls in her hair and her shawl is tied with a sprig of pink flowers, matching the embroidery on her husband's waistcoat. The work is well presented in a gilt oval frame with a beaded running pattern. Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
Overall, the condition is good, with good retention of colour. There is discolouration and craquelure, as is typical for a picture of this age. There is warping to the canvas and frame, and scratches and cracking to the frame.
