A charming oil landscape by Horace Antoine Fonville (1832-1914) depicting an angler baiting his line on a dried riverbed. A small stream cascades through the centre of the composition, with the wide angle offering a glimpse of the river's former expanse. The painting is well presented in a contemporary wooden frame. Signed to the lower right. Dated 1873. On canvas.
Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age. Three canvas tears have been repaired verso. Inspection under UV light reveals minor areas of overpainting. There is some craquelure to the surface. Light wear to the wooden frame. The overall condition of the artwork is very good.
