Hildred Harpin - Original Early 20th Century Watercolour. Painted on watercolour paper. Unsigned. Condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration.From a large collection of works all apparently by the same hand. Some are signed E Harpin, a few H Harpin but by the same hand. Many are unsigned. Several are dated around 1918-1919. We cannot be certain but we suspect that at some point Hildred (Harry) was using his middle name and therefore signed the works E Harpin. For more information please click here.Size

Collection Information
From a large collection of works by Hildred Harpin and his father Edgar Harpin. Some are signed E Harpin, and a few H Harpin - several are dated around 1918-1919. Hildred Harpin won a scholarship to the Royal College of Art and won the Prix de Rome travel scholarship. After teaching art at Keighley Boys' Grammar School he eventually became ordained as a Catholic priest, had a parish in Wales and ended up as the English speaking minister to the Filipino nuns at Assisi. From there he travelled extensively in the USA where his paintings were most popular. He died on October 4th after celebrating the mass at Assisi on St Francis' Feast Day where he is buried.
