Artist Biography

Henry Wilkinson was an engraver and painter and son of artist Henry Robinson Wilkinson. Best known for his paintings and engravings of sporting dogs and during a professional career spanning over 60 years, he applied his creative talent to fields as diverse as silversmithing, gun making, cabinet making and stone masonry. Following early studies at Winchester College of Art where his father was Headmaster, entrance was gained to the painting school at the Royal College of Art. However he soon transferred to the Engraving School where under Robert Austin and Malcolm Osborne he learnt his basic skills.

He won a British Institution Scholarship giving him extra time at the college enabling him to gain a travelling scholarship where he studied in Heidelberg, France and Italy. After World War II he was elected Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers. For many years Wilkinson was Head of the Engraving at the City and Guilds of London Art School, a consultant to the Morris Singer Bronze Foundry and a council member of the Royal Society of Painter Etchers
