Description
A detailed pastoral scene depicting a rustic farmyard populated by livestock. Cattle, pigs, ducks, and chickens roam the yard freely with a milkmaid attending to her duties. The composition is anchored by several farm buildings, whilst in the distance the maid's husband can be seen returning to the yard on horseback. The painting is well presented in an ornate gilt effect frame with swept rails, complete with floral and acanthus ornamentation. Signed to the lower right. On canvas.Condition
The painting has been previously cleaned and relined. There are some light surface scratches in the top third (near centre). Stable cracking to the frame's swept rails. The overall condition of the artwork is very good.

Artist Biography
Taught and influenced by their father, both sons also assisted him in his studio until his death. The brothers frequently collaborated with one another, with Charles painting animals and Henry the, often wooded, landscape.
