A fine early 20th century watercolour painting by British artist Henry Charles Innes Fripp, depicting a view of Leatherhead Railway bridge over the River Mole with swans and signets in the foreground. The watercolour is signed to the lower left-hand corner. Well-presented in a slate grey mount. On wove.

Artist Biography

Painter of genre pictures, illustrator, stained glass artist, designer and teacher commonly referred to as Innes Fripp. He came from a long line of artistic antecedents, his father Samuel Charles Fripp, (1812-1882) was an architect and sculptor, his uncle, George Arthur Fripp, (1813-1896) was a respected watercolourist, his cousin was military artist Charles Edwin Fripp, (1854-1906) and his great-great-grandfather was the renowned maritime painter Nicholas Pocock, (1740-1821). Innes Fripp studied at the Bristol Municipal School of Art and then in London at the Royal College of Art and completed his studies in Paris. He later taught at his London alma mater and also at Lambeth School of Art. Much of his better-known works are of fantasy or religious themes a pattern he followed when illustrating books.

As an exhibitor, he showed at the Dudley Gallery, New Gallery, Royal Academy, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, Manchester Academy of Fine Arts and at the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours. Although he lived in Putney, London his death occurred n Battersea Hospital.
