Signs of wear consistent with age. Craquelure and light scuffs throughout. There is a small area of restoration to the centre of the painting. Overall the artwork is in very good condition for its age. Very light wear to the frame, however overall it is in fine condition.

Born in London in 1868, Henry Bishop studied at the Slade before continuing his training in Paris and Brittany under the American painter Alexander Harrison. From the outset, he showed a sensitivity to atmosphere, particularly in his handling of light and colour. In the late 1880s he settled in Cornwall, where he became a founding member of the St Ives Arts Club. Though the coastal landscape remained an enduring influence, travel was central to his practice. Extended periods in Morocco proved especially formative, inspiring sunlit street scenes that balance structure with a keen sense of daily life. He later worked in the South of France, and back in England became known for views of Dover. Bishop exhibited widely, showing regularly at the Royal Academy from 1906 and becoming a full Academician in 1939. He died later that year. His work is now held in major UK collections, including the Tate and Manchester Art Gallery.
