With an artist label on the reverse inscribed 'Kettlewell from the Old Roman Road'. Well presented in an ornate gilt effect frame with decorative, floral corner pieces. Signed. On canvas.

Condition

There is substantial paint loss to the upper sky area which has been retouched, visible under UV light. There is also craquelure to the green pigment at the lower central area. Otherwise the overall appearance is good.

Artist Biography

Gordon Clifford Barlow was a British artist (1913-2004). He lived and worked in Wharfedale Yorkshire and most of his paintings are of rural landscapes in Yorkshire and elsewhere. He studied and later taught at Bradford School of Art. He was taught by Stanley Royle and was known for his paintings of golf and golf courses. He showed at galleries in London and in the provinces.
