Description

Dr. Franz Heinrich Zitz (1803-1877), a prominent attorney from Mainz, Germany is depicted here in miniature. He was a member of parliament and served as the head of the militia in Mainz. He emigrated to America after the failed 1849 uprising, but returned to Germany after amnesty was offered. Beautifully presented in an antique gilt frame. Indistinctly inscribed verso. Unsigned. On card.

Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age including discolouration and craquelure. Small loss to the paint. Areas of overpainting. Marks, scuffs, and stable cracking to the frame.
