An extremely fine 19th century German Biedermeier period portrait in pastel c.1850, depicting the Privy Medicinal Councillor Johann August Heinrich Nicolai (1796-1882) by an unknown artist. Unsigned. The sitter's name inscribed on the label verso, along with some of his professional attainments: Promotion 1825, Order of the Red Eagle 1874, Dimissoriale 1875. Presented in a fine veneer frame.
