A fine oval portrait by the listed British artist Richard Hollingdale (1850-1899). The composition depicts an elderly Victorian lady in a flamboyant lace cap and collar. Hollingdale captures the lady in a contemplative pose, her gaze directed slightly off centre. The portrait is extremely lifelike, testament to the artist's skill and observation. Well presented in an oval giltwood mat and gilt effect frame with foliate ornamentation at the corners. Signed 'R. Hollingdale' to the lower left and dated 1893. On paper.
Condition
The artwork is in extremely good condition for its age. Minor discolouration noted to the paper and some light wear to the frame.
