A charming rural Dutch scene by Gerbrand van Schagen (1880-1968). A barge transports a stack of hay in the foreground, whilst cattle and a windmill in the distance complete the idyllic scene. Signed to the lower left. Well presented in a swept gilt frame. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age including discolouration and craquelure. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration. Wear and losses to the frame.
