Description

A striking 18th Century engraving, showing a classical statue of a woman, described in an in-plate inscription, as an Amazon. The woman has one arm raised, as if she may have been leaning on a staff or holding a spear. The artist has rendered the drapery of her gown with impressive detail. The inscription states that this statue is in the Cesi Palace collection in Rome. The original statue was possibly created by Claude Randon. The artist's name is inscribed in plate to the lower right corner and the engraving is presented in a fine 20th Century gilt frame with ripple molding and a card mount. On laid.
