Description
This atmospheric landscape depicts dramatic rocky cliffs, rendered in muted earth tones and soft grey-blue hues that evoke a misty or hazy atmosphere. The composition leads the viewer's eye from the darker foreground vegetation and geological formations upward towards the imposing architectural ruins crowning the summit, whilst the delicate handling of light captures the late afternoon sun wonderfully. Signed to the lower left corner. Provenance: Palace of Art, North East Coast Exhibition, Newcastle, 1929. On watercolour paper laid to card.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and very minor foxing.
