Description

A charming mezzotint with coloured aquatint by George Keating, British (1762 - 1842), after the original painting by Sir Joshua Reynolds, British (1723-1792).

This charming three-quarter length portrait shows The Duchess of Devonshire, Georgiana Cavendish, sitting, directed and facing to the right, right hand raised, holding her daughter on her lap with her left hand, with arms raised in delight; balcony, vase, and shrubbery in the background.

The inscription at the lower edge shows the artist and engraver names, the publisher's details and the dedication. The mezzotint has bee presented in a contemporary gilt effect frame with grey card mount.

On wove.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is a vertical scratch down the lower left quadrant and a small hole at the upper right edge. There is slight splitting at the internal frame corners.
