A fine and accomplished watercolour painting with gouache details by George Hughes, depicting a rural scene with a cottage and blossoming trees. Signed to the lower left-hand corner. Well-presented in a double wash line card mount and in a distressed, gilt-effect frame. On watercolour paper.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. Small scuffs to the frame.

Artist Biography
Painter of figures and domestic scenes in watercolour. Hughes resided in Liverpool, Oxton, Wirral and Stratford upon Avon in Warwickshire. He showed at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Academy, Royal Cambrian Academy, Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours and was a member of the Liver Sketching Club in the 1890's. Hughes was married to the painter Ethel T Davies.
