Description

A view of thatched cottages and the old forge in Branscombe, Devon. Now a National Trust property, Branscombe Forge was built around 1580 and is believed to be the oldest thatched working forge in the county. Presented in a gilt-effect wooden frame with a linen slip. Signed to the lower-right edge. There is a label on the verso with biographical information about the artist. Title inscribed on the verso. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

There are some slight marks to the frame but overall in fine condition.

Artist Biography

George Horne was born in Worcestershire but was educated in Vancouver, Canada at a young age. On returning to England, he studied at the Birmingham College of Art, where he won printmaking and design prizes. He has exhibited his work widely, including in England, America and Mexico.
