A large watercolour landscape featuring a woman resting by a gate on a riverbank. Tall mountains fill the background of the composition with their peaks pointing through the mist. Signed and dated to the lower left. On paper.

Condition

Overall in very good condition for its age. Some light marking to the upper edge caused by a previous mount.

Artist Biography

George Gregory (1849-1938) was a painter from the Isle of Wight. He predominantly painted continental town scenes, seascapes, and figures. He is said to have given Queen Victoria's children painting lessons when they resided at their holiday home of Osborne House on the Isle of Wight
