Artist Biography

Born in 1919, Gabriel Deschamps trained at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts in Paris. From 1939, he held a position as a State Art Professor and exhibited regularly as a member of the Paris Autumn Salon. His reputation rested above all on his atmospheric landscapes of Provence, where he maintained a home, and the dramatic coastline of southern France. Through his work, he achieved a remarkable ability to convey the luminous quality of light and the rich, vivid palette so characteristic of that part of the world.
