Description

A charming architectural work depicting Rue Norvins in Montmartre, Paris. The quiet street is rendered in a muted palette of greys, blues, and ochres that conveys an early morning atmosphere. The artist employs loose, impressionistic brushwork to capture the weathered façades of the closely-set buildings, with their shuttered windows and modest shopfronts creating a sense of daily life in the neighbourhood. The work is well presented in a gilt-effect frame with white slip. Trace of a signature lower left. Dated 1942. On canvas.

Condition

A light, even patina of age is present across the surface of the artwork. Inspection under UV light reveals minor restoration. The frame has light surface wear. Overall, the artwork presents in good condition for its age.
