A characterful portrait of a Venetian fisherman standing with his hands on his hips and turned away from the viewer. Presented in a deep wash line mount and a distressed gilt-effect wooden frame with ornate detailing to the inner edge. Signed, dated, and inscribed with the location to the lower-right edge. There is some slight debris trapped beneath the glazing but overall in fine condition.

Artist Biography
Frank Richards RBA (1863-1935) was a painter and illustrator of landscapes and figures in watercolours and oils. He was born and worked in Birmingham early in his career before moving to the West Country. He showed with the RBSA and was a member from 1884 and also showed at the RBA, becoming a member of that society in 1921. Richards also exhibited at the RA, ROI, and the Dowdeswells Gallery as well as in the provinces. He lived for five years at Newlyn and also in Hampshire, but many of his works depict the East Coast around Lowestoft. His painting ranges from detailed figure studies in watercolours to more simplified oil paintings. He also contributed work to The Graphic and The Yellow Book.
