Frank Griffith - Original Early 20th Century Oil. Oil on panel. With Atelier Frank Griffith stamp on the reverse. The painting has a varnished surface. Unsigned. In fine condition.Frank Griffith (1889-1979) was born in North Wales but, in 1895, the family moved from to Folkestone. He went on to study art in Paris in 1907, with painter Maurice Denis, and where he became friends with the noted Belgian artist Theo van Rysselberghe and the French Post-Impressionist Paul Signac. Upon his return to London in 1912, Griffith studied under Walter Sickert at Rowlandson House in London as part of the London Group, an exhibiting society of progressive artists predisposed to modern French art. In the mid-1920s he lived in France and adopted many continental techniques and compositions. He then returned once more to England to live in Cambridgeshire and Wiltshire before settling in Evershot near Dorchester from 1954.Size
