Frank B. Jowett (1879-1943) - Early 20th Century Watercolour Beneath the Trees

Description

A tranquil scene with two figures seated beneath a tree on the riverbank. A cottage or mill lies further upstream. Presented glazed in a wash line mount with gold detailing and a distressed grey wooden frame with a gilt-effect inner window. Signed to the lower-left edge. Later label on the verso. On watercolour paper.

Condition

There are some very slight dents to the frame but overall in fine condition.

Artist Biography

Frank B. Jowett (1879-1943) was a painter and etcher who was largely self-taught and for most of his adult life worked in industry as the Managing Director of the Carrington Shoe Company. He was also Chairman of the Rotary International Art Group and Chairman of the Kettering and District Art Society. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of British Artists, the RSW and RI. His work is in the collection of the Alfred East Art Gallery, Kettering.
