The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and very light foxing. Minor marks to the mount and some scuffs to the frame.

A Glasgow based painter originally of landscape but also of fowls. He joined the British army, becoming an officer in 25th Kings Own Borderers. Probably an amateur artist he turned to watercolours and obviously spent time in North America. He exhibited a painting of Niagara Falls at the RSA and examples of his work are in the Canadian Government national archive. He subsequently turned his attention to England where he exhibited more than 350 works, mainly at the Dudley Gallery, London and Walker's Gallery, London and also at the RA, RBA and FAS. His work is in the collection of Newark and Sherwood Museum Service.
