Description

A particularly fine Scottish landscape in oil, by the artist Francis E. Jamieson (1895-1950), but signed under his pseudonym W. Richards. Jamieson has a distinctive aesthetic style, instilling a sense of calm in the viewer, from his bucolic scenes. Here, the hotel Tigh Mor in the Trossachs sits beside Loch Achray. The spires of the castle resemble the peaks of the mountainous setting, and the artist has created a subtle reflection in the surface of the lake. Presented in a gilt wooden slip. Inscribed to the reverse 'Trossachs Hotel, Loch Achray'. Signed and incsribed on the reverse. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

In very good condition for a picture of this age. There is some minor surface discolouration and craqueluree. The gilt slip has some surface marks and scratches, as well as losses to the lower edge and upper right corner.

Size

39.7 x 60cm (15.6" x 23.6")
Framed Size: 47 x 67.1cm (18.5" x 26.4")
