A delightful landscape painting by the listed British artist Francis E. Jamieson (1895-1950). The scene depicts sunny peaks at Betws-Y-Coed with the river Conwy whooshing past an old valley mill. The artist has signed the composition to the lower right, and the oil has been well-presented in a large gilt-effect frame. Titled to the reverse. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some surface discolouration and craquelure. Inspection under UV light reveals no restoration. Brown Spotting and scuffs noticeable on the large gilt-effect frame.

Artist Biography

Painter in oil and watercolour of Highland and Coastal scenes. Jamieson was a prolific painter who often signed with pseudonyms such as 'Phil Hips', 'Graham Williams', 'W. Richards' and 'Arnold Pienne'. His oils were most commonly of Loch or Highland landscapes. Jamieson travelled widely throughout the country between the wars selling his paintings. His work was often in a more traditional Victorian style and his pictures were reproduced as postcards by Ajelli and Co of London around 1920.
