The artist has taken inspiration from depictions of the Madonna and child prevalent throughout Italian renaissance. This large piece borrows from an established visual history of Christian iconography.
Well presented in a large oak frame with carved detail and gilt effect slip.
Unsigned. On canvas.There are a number of condition issues with this artwork. There are areas of overpainting, visible under UV light and heavy craquelure across the painting. With wrinkling to the paint layer, most notably to the upper edges which has caused minor areas of paint loss. With scuffing to the edges of the frame and two large 10cm cracks to the upper left corner of the slip.
