Framed Early 19th Century Oil - Portrait of Julia MacKay
Description
A fine early 19th-century oval portrait depicting Lady Julia MacKay, elegantly dressed in a flowing white gown with lace cap and blue ribbon. Well presented in an antique Empire frame with oval mat. Unsigned, though inscribed 'Julia MacKay' on the reverse. On copper plate.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age, including some light wear and fine craquelure to the surface of the painting. There is a small indentation in the copper plate at the top edge (centre). Inspection under UV light reveals minor restoration to the portrait. The gilt frame shows signs of age-related wear, light rubbing on all rails, and stable cracking to the ornate cove moulding. The overall condition of the artwork is very good.
