A fine early nineteenth-century portrait of a lady, positioned against a dark background that allows the intricate lacework on her bonnet, collar and shoulders to stand out beautifully. Well presented in an antique gilt frame. Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age, including craquelure, discolouration, and warping to the canvas. The artwork has undergone restorative work, including two canvas tear repairs and areas of overpainting. Wear along the upper edge of the canvas, resulting in some small losses to the paint. Scuffs and small losses to the frame, as well as evidence of woodworm, which has been treated.
