Dutch School Early 20th Century Oil - The Fiddler
Description
A characterful portrait of a man playing a violin by an unknown Dutch artist from the late nineteenth or early twentieth century. Set against a dark background, the subject is illuminated by dramatic chiaroscuro lighting. The work is well presented in a black frame with a gilt slip. Unsigned. On canvas laid to board.Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age, including discolouration. The canvas has been laid to board, and inspection under UV light reveals areas of overpainting. Wear to the frame includes scuffs, small losses, and slight separation to the upper left and lower right corners. Overall, the artwork is in good condition for its age, and the piece presents well.
