A fine early 19th century genre painting depicting a noble lady and her lady-in-waiting attending a masquerade. Most likely the ball's guest of honour, the lady is dressed in a richly ornate Ottoman-style outfit featuring a gold-embroidered bodice, red satin, white skirt, pearl necklace, and a fez-style hat with tassel. Behind her, the lady-in-waiting wears a Romantic-era green and white dress with ruffled sleeves whilst holding a mask. The painting is well presented in a wooden frame with an orange blossom running pattern adorning the inner window. Unsigned. On copper plate.
Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age, including fine craquelure and minor yellowing to the varnish layer. Minor abrasion to the perimeter of the painting, caused by movement in the frame. The frame itself is in excellent condition.
