A very large and impressive 19th Century watercolour depicting children playing in sand dunes, with distance figures along the shore. Composed with a dramatic contrast in depth, a horse and cart with fishermen can be seen on the beach, while the children are typically dressed for the period, in vivid detail.
Well-presented in a distressed gilt wooden frame, and card mount, as shown. There is a note to the reverse reading 'Normandy, France'.
Unsigned. On watercolour paper.In very good condition overall for a picture of this age. Some light surface discolouration, mainly to the upper area of the sky. The frame has some losses and an overall distressed look and feel, with wear to the corners and overpainted gilt areas.
