A charming nineteenth-century oil painting after another work by an unidentified artist. The composition depicts a young peasant girl resting in woodland surroundings. A pile of chestnuts spills from her lap whilst a staff lies on the woodland floor beside her. She gazes with interest towards the upper right, where a butterfly displays its wings upon the overhanging foliage. Well presented in an ornate gilt frame. Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration and craquelure. The artwork has undergone some restorative work, including three canvas tear repairs and areas of overpainting. Light wear to the frame.
