19th Century Oil - Portrait of a Scholar

Description

This painting features a profile portrait of a mature man with long hair and a full beard, set against a warm, shadowy background. The artist has skilfully captured the subject's weathered features and dignified bearing through expressive brushwork and a rich, earthy colour palette dominated by reds and browns. Unsigned. Illegibly inscribed to the reverse in Cyrillic. Presented in a gilt frame. On panel.

Condition

Some light discolouration to the varnish of the painting. Some light marks to the surface. There is some minor craquelure to the surface. Wear and markings to the frame has left it with a distressed finish.
