Description

An intimate genre scene in oil, depicting a family by the river. A woman in a coral dress cradles a young infant, whilst her husband teaches their son how to fish. The composition is framed by verdant foliage and a distant watermill. Well presented in a veneered wood frame with gilt slip. Illegibly initialled lower right. On canvas.

Condition

The artwork exhibits signs of wear consistent with age. Fine craquelure is observed throughout the paint surface. Light surface discolouration is present, including yellowing to the varnish layer. Inspection under UV light reveals some previous restoration. There are two dark scratch marks in the lower right-hand quadrant. The canvas has been previously relined.
