Description

Inspired by the lavish still life compositions of the Dutch Golden Age, this painting depicts a table laden with fruit and an ornate jug. During the Dutch Golden Age, still life compositions such as this aimed to show wealth and prosperity. Pineapples in particular were seen as a status symbol due to their rarity and expense. Well presented in a gilt frame with decorative floral corner ornamentation. Unsigned. On board.

Condition

Signs of wear consistent with age including discolouration and surface dirt. Marks and scuffs to the frame.
