A fine 17th-century botanical engraving depicting various species of spring crocus, taken from the landmark botanical book Hortus Eystettensis, published in 1613. The plates were engraved primarily by Wolfgang Kilian, Friedrich Bouttats, Levinus Hulsius, and Dominicus Custos, working from drawings by Basilius Besler, the Nuremberg apothecary who compiled and oversaw the entire work. Even discoloration noted to the paper. Light debris behind the glazing. Minor surface wear to the antique oak frame. Overall, the artwork is in very good condition for its age.
