Description
A charming early 19th century folk art portrait in oil, showing a young shepherd alongside his loyal dog and trusted crook in a highland landscape. The sitter is wearing his every day attire, including a shepherd's hat and neckerchief, and is pictured gazing to the right of the viewer with piercing blue eye. Unsigned. The painting is well presented in a substantial deep sided gilt frame with decorative palmette motifs at all four corner. On panel.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration caused by a buildup of surface dirt and nicotine. A hairline crack in the wooden panel runs from top to bottom through the centre of the composition. Signs of wear and tear to the frame include light scuffing and chips to the gilt.
