Flemish School, c.1700, Domestic Idyll, oil on canvas laid to oak panel. The scene depicts a seated woman in traditional Dutch dress, wearing a white cap and blue jacket with red skirt, tenderly cradling an infant in her arms. The composition employs a warm, earthy palette with dramatic chiaroscuro lighting that draws the viewer's attention to the central maternal figure, whilst household objects add interest to the darker periphery. Presented in a stained wooden frame. Unsigned. Provenance: Private collection, North Rhine-Westphalia.Condition
The artwork exhibits signs of wear consistent with age. Fine craquelure is observed throughout the paint surface. Inspection under UV light reveals some previous restoration. Minor abrasions are visible to the edges of the panel. The frame has minor surface wear. Overall, the artwork presents in very good condition for its age.
