Description
A delightfully fine early 19th-century portrait of an elegant lady with fair skin and rosy cheeks. The subject wears a yellow shawl, delicate gold hoops and a glittering emerald brooch bearing the initial 'M', illustrating her high standing. The viewer is drawn to the lady's slight smile and soft hazel eyes, framed by her wispy romantic updo. Unsigned. Beautifully presented in an ornate gold frame with floral and foliate ornamentation. On canvas on stretchers.Condition
There is craquelure to the surface of the painting. The canvas has been relined. The frame shows signs of wear consistent with age including minor stable cracking, slight separation to the mitre joints and small losses to the lower left and upper right corners.
