A rare discovery, this late eighteenth century view of the city of Córdoba, Spain provides a fine historical perspective of 18th century Andalusia. The Moorish Mezquita Cathedral and Roman bridge in the city today are visible in the distance, while figures converse and fish along the harbour in the foreground. The scene is painted within a feigned trompe-l'oeil oval, as if the viewer resides behind a window looking out, a charming element by the artist. Handsomely presented in an antique green and gilt-edged frame. Unsigned. On canvas on stretchers.

Condition

The artwork has undergone restorative work, including relining and areas of overpainting. Signs of wear consistent with age, including discolouration and craquelure. Marks and scuffs to the frame.
