A fine 18th century portrait depicting a senior nobleman of the Habsburg Empire. The sitter is dressed in a dark ceremonial coat with a striking red collar, and wears the prestigious insignia of the Royal Hungarian Order of Saint Stephen — founded by Empress Maria Theresa in 1764. Unsigned. Beautifully presented in a decorative gilt frame. On canvas laid to board.
Condition
Signs of wear consistent with age. Craquelure and light abrasions throughout. Discolouration to the surface. Inspection under UV light reveals some previous restoration. Overall the artwork is in good condition for its age. Light wear to the frame, including scuffs, chips and indentations.
