A large classical portrait by the listed British artist Ernest Townsend (1880-1944). A handsome half-length portrait of William Cooper, seated at a desk with quill and paper to hand. Signed 'Ernest Townsend' to the upper left-hand corner. Dated 1911. With the inscription 'W. Cooper Esq J.P. Painted by Ernest Townsend. Derby 1911' verso. On canvas on stretchers.
Condition
Minor overpainting visible to the surface of the oil. Light wear and abrasion to the edges of the canvas. The overall condition of the portrait is very good.
