This charming watercolour study by British artist Erik Smith (1914-1972), features a delightful fishing town with stacked coastal properties lining a quiet Cornish harbour. The artist's fine ink details and controlled application of paint brings an endearing and naive quality to the colourful coastal composition. Signed and dated to the lower right-hand corner. The painting is beautifully presented in a contemporary gilt frame and new card mount. Glazed. On brown paper.

The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. The gilt frame and mount are in fine condition.

Artist Biography

Painter, watercolourist, lithographer, etcher and designer of stained Glass. Born in Birmingham in 1914. Died in 1972. Studied at Willesden School of Art 1934-1936 and at the R.C.A. Exhibited at the R.A., R.W.S., R.B.A., R.E. and R.W.S. Represented in many public collections.
