Description
An accomplished watercolour artist, Powell was known for his accuracy of detail and variety of techniques in his compositions. This particular piece depicts a continental coastal scene, possibly the Greek island of Santorini in the Aegean Sea.

Signed and dated in the lower left hand corner, as shown. Well presented in a washline mount and a modern gilt effect frame with ornate detailing, as shown.

Artist Biography
Eric Walter Powell (1886-1933) was an English artist, Eton College House Master and Art Teacher. He was also a rower who competed for Great Britain in the 1908 Olympics, winning a Bronze medal. During WW1 Powell served as a squadron commander in The Flying Corps and later in the R.A.F.
