English School Early 19th Century Oil - The Village at Dawn

Description

This charming oil study depicts two figures and a donkey on a village street early. They stand outside a thatched cottage at the top of a hill looking down on the rest of the village. The artist uses an accomplished hand to capture the early morning light in the scene, which hits the facade of the cottages casting deep shadows on the rest of the scene. Unsigned. Well presented in a rococo revival style frame with ornate shell corner mouldings and acanthus c-scrolling. On board.

Condition

There is some craquelure to the surface and small surface marks that can be scene to the top of the painting. There is some wear to the paint at the very edges of the board. There is wear to the frame, including cracking and small, restored losses.
