Description

A very fine example of English Victorian portraiture, this depiction of a finely dressed woman is of excellent quality. The sitter is depicted in the typical Victorian mourning style dress with lace cuffs, collar and bonnet. She sports a fine gold and jet brooch at her neck and holds a cuff that she is crocheting in her lap. Her sewing box stands open on a cloth covered table with bobbins and a pin cushion displayed in front. She has an endearing face with a timid, uncertain smile and softly flushed cheeks. The painting is unsigned and handsomely presented in its original 19th Century gilt frame with laurel and berry strap work and a fluted cove. On canvas.
