Description

An intimate and honest retrospective portrait of Marie Wilhelmine Schultze, painted in the style of the Biedermeier period (1815–1848). The work is presented in a gilt-effect frame with aged patina finish. Although the artwork bears the date 1841 on the verso, we believe this may be a copy of an original portrait from this period rather than dating to 1841 itself. The reverse also bears the painter's name 'Hieron Muller'. Unsigned. Acquired as a pair with the sitter's husband (SX963), also listed for sale. On panel.

Condition

The artwork exhibits signs of wear consistent with age. Minor surface marks/abrasions are present. Inspection under UV light reveals some previous restoration. The frame has minor surface wear. Overall, the artwork presents in good condition.
